It is widely agreed that a happy and stable relationship in marriage is <\/span>the bedrock of<\/b> any community, with a greater likelihood of responsible partners, which would result in a a <\/span>harmonious<\/b> family. Because of this, it is important to support the institution of marriage in every way possible. Hence, a question regards to the age of marriage is a concern of many in this day and age.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

There are a number of reasons for making the minimum age for <\/span>matrimony<\/b> as late as possible. Many would <\/span>argue<\/b> that people in their 20s are able to make such more rational decisions than teenagers can. Older people might have seen enough of the world to know that the feelings that they hold for someone at a given moment may not last. They will realise that <\/span>superficia<\/b>l characteristics like physical beauty and sporting <\/span>prowess<\/b> may not be the only attributes\/elements\u00a0 to bring happiness in a relationship. Older couples are likely to give more consideration to issues such as income and job prospects, but also to less <\/span>obvious<\/b> but important personality <\/span>traits<\/b> such as <\/span>tolerance<\/b>, kindness or moral strength.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

However, other people contend that it is unrealistic to make couples wait until their 20s before marrying. They suggest that as soon as\u00a0 boys and\u00a0 girls reached <\/span>puberty<\/b> they should be allowed to marry. To prevent they doing so would result in <\/span>resentment<\/b> between the generations, <\/span>frustration<\/b> and an increase in the number of unsupported <\/span>pregnancies<\/b>. If married teenagers are given enough help to support, they can have children when they are young and healthy enough to enjoy them.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

In conclusion, considering both this sets of arguments, I feel that 21 is probably too old but that 18 should be made the legal minimum at which couples can marry. It is suggested that young people also need to be carefully educated on what a happy marriage entails before deciding for themselves.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
